NotforProfit.in(dia) is a Community Fundraising & Social Advocacy Platform. Its about Indian Campaigns and Indian Supporters. It’s is not just about giving money but also about helping citizens to make the choice to support larger community initiatives which in turn helps us build ourselves, our communities and our democracy.
We went live on the 20th of May 2015. Everything we do is in-house and we wear multiple hats most of the time. We think we are doing okay so far. We’re starting small but working towards building a network of enablers, campaigners, donors and citizens who can empower us. We’re bootstrapping it and we’re short-staffed but we have a vision!
If you think we and what we do is worth encouraging,
make a contribution and either way stay connected.
If you do contribute, who can you hold responsible?
That would be me! I am a Naturalist at heart, a Biologist by training and a Facilitator by profession.
Academically, I graduated with a Bachelor’s & Master’s degrees in Life Sciences from the Madras Christian College. Further studies included the Wildlife Conservation and Management Program with the Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C & the Malaysian Department of Wildlife and National Parks followed by a few years of a second Masters-PhD, which I then abandoned, in Wildlife Management & Conservation Biology in the United States.
Educationally, I consider myself privileged to have spent nearly thirty years working in the Great Outdoors. In the early eighties, I was introduced to the magic of sea turtles and went on to found the non-profit Student’s Sea Turtle Conservation Network (SSTCN) which for the past 27 years has been working towards sensitizing people about the environment. I have lived and worked as a commercial fisherman, deck hand & cook on board an Alaskan Purse Seiner; been a banquet waiter, snack bar cook, pet store assistant, zoo keeper, croc-catcher, construction worker, website developer and built and run two community cafes. For more than two decades, I have owned and operated, DreamCatcher, an Outdoor Education Company running some of the earliest “Outward Bound” style programs in India.
I worked with Greenpeace, as its Fundraising Director in it’s early years in India and am currently on the board of the Samarthan Trust and responsible for this project – www.notforprofit.in.
